Each year, the WIP serves from 1000 to 1500 students in approximately 43 diverse courses across the college, including offerings in art history, geology, and mathematics.  Most of these courses are regular-enrollment sections, but one or two courses each semester are large-enrollment classes.  A compelling majority of students enrolled in these courses consistently reported that their experience with The Writing Intensive Program

  1. strengthened their writing skills;
  2. built their confidence in the writing process;
  3. forced a deeper engagement in course reading, discussions, and assignments;
  4. taught them them the writing conventions of their discipline;
  5. heightened their critical thinking skills; and
  6. prepared them for writing in other courses and future goals, such as graduate school or career-related work.
