Writing-Intensive Pedagogy for Graduate Students
Orientation
New WIP TAs participate in a two-and-a-half-day orientation. This program introduces graduate teaching assistants to the program’s core principles and writing pedagogy basics. Graduate TAs learn strategies to assign writing, respond to student writing, and facilitate the transfer of writing knowledge and skills.
WIPP 7001
Pedagogy of Writing in the Disciplines builds on the foundation established during orientation and explores in greater detail the principles and best practices advocated by the Writing Intensive Program. This course prepares WIP teaching assistants with the theoretical background and practical knowledge to provide superior support for WIP faculty and exceptional coaching for students enrolled in WIP courses.
WIPP 7001 for Biology
This course surveys the most recent research in student writing processes and the best pedagogical practices for helping students improve their writing, understand course content, and become familiar with the disciplinary conventions of writing in biology. Specifically, the course prepares graduate lab assistants to coach writing in introductory biology labs sections. GLAs learn WIP principles and best practices for teaching and responding to student writing in an inquiry-based lab setting.
