Since 2017, UGA undergraduate students enrolled in ENGL 4842 Internship in Technical and Professional Communication have worked with WIP to create, enhance, and deliver an exciting array of communication initiatives—from infographics and newsletters to social media and a podcast.
Meet the Current Interns
Ellie Hartsgrove, Harper Harper Purcell, and Audrey Case

Hello, my name is Ellie Hartsgrove, and I am a fourth year English major. With multiple years of experience in photography and social media engagement, I am dedicated to increasing community engagement with the Writing Intensive Program at the University of Georgia this fall. Additionally, I aim to raise awareness about The Classic Journal and encourage undergraduate students from all majors and disciplines to submit their work.

Hello, my name is Audrey Case and I am a fourth year English major! With experience in scripting and podcasting with previous small press publishers, I aim to communicate how higher education shapes the literacy of students everyday. I specifically aim to establish how we may learn more about writing as we interact with it in our everyday lives and how this serves to broaden our awareness of typical forms of writing as we see them in the classroom.

Hi! I’m Harper! I am a 4th year English major with minors in Spanish and Film Studies. I have a passion for all things writing, cinema, and literature. I am excited to build and boost the WIP social media! Be on the look out for new instagram posts, logo updates, and more!
About the Internship
WIP seeks student interns to contribute to the program’s communication and media initiatives. Candidates should be motivated, creative individuals with strong communication, writing, design, and social media skills. WIP communications/media interns work with the program director on regular and scheduled initiatives designed to increase WIP’s visibility on campus and online. WIP interns may also work on marketing initiatives for Write@UGA, an online resource and month-long celebration of writing in February. Finally, WIP interns may work on administrative, communication, and marketing initiatives for The Classic Journal, the Writing Intensive Program’s journal of undergraduate writing and research. WIP interns pay careful attention to details; have a keen eye for modern design aesthetics; demonstrate effective social media, digital media, and branding strategies; and work well with others and independently.

Testimonials
This internship has built my confidence as an editor, interviewer, and conversator in ways that would have been impossible without it.
—Matthew Karshna, Fall 2022
This internship provided me with opportunities to think outside of the box when it comes to professional communications. Getting the chance to work on podcast development and social media posts was so fun, and it taught me many valuable skills ranging from using different types of software to interviewing. The Writing Intensive Program is such a valuable resource to students on campus, and this internship was a great opportunity to share that mission with students and staff!
